Tap into Plainfield - December 16, 2023
PLAINFIELD, NJ — Amanda Chernack, breast cancer advocate and health and physical education teacher at Plainfield High School, presented a check for $850.00 to Dorothy J. Reed, President and Co-Founder of Sister2Sister, an organization that helps minority and underserved women with breast cancer on Thursday, December 14.
Chernack, a survivor who educates students on the importance of good breast health, ran the “Pink Out” Fundraiser in October 2023, an event she established with Coach Carol Taffaro last year. Taffaro has been cancer-free for 15 years.
Dorothy J. Reed, Co-Founder and President of Sister2Sister for the past 23 years, attended the event along with Lucia Brown, Director. Both Dorothy and Lucia are also breast cancer survivors.
“Ms. Amanda loves her students and wants to help their parents, relatives, and grandmothers with the services that Sister2Sister provides,” said Reed.
Sisters2Sister headquarters is located in Somerset with a satellite location in Plainfield.
“Throughout my cancer diagnosis, I have kept an open dialogue with my students, mainly because cancer is not talked about as often as it should and children need to learn that cancer can be hereditary or environmental.,” Chernack said. “Many of the students have family members fighting a similar battle as me, or have lost individuals dear to them. My students keep me positive and strong.”
